Year 9 Jewellery Workshop
A small group of Year 9 students, chosen for their passion or talent in the subject of Design & Technology, spent the school day at Upper School on Thursday 7th January, participating in a workshop focussing on the design and manufacture of traditional “craft” style jewellery and some presentation gift packaging for the items they made. The name of the company they were designing for was “Seasons”, a company specialising in craft style jewellery inspired by the seasons throughout the year.
The graphics on the packaging had to reflect the brief and their work needed to focus on one of the seasons in particular. It was a challenge for them to apply their graphics effectively to a supplied net for a gift box and then to cut and assemble their finished product. The jewellery they made was based on an enamelled copper style piece, testing their ability to design and shape their copper in 3 dimensions, ensuring the quality of shaping and finishing required for such an item.
The students rose to the challenge, creating fabulous pieces of jewellery. It’s fair to say that all of the products and packaging were very professionally made and wouldn’t have looked out of place in any jewellery shop. Mr Jeffs, Technology teacher commented “It was lovely to see the students working enthusiastically in an unfamiliar setting to produce outstanding results. A really enjoyable and rewarding day for staff and students alike.”
