U12 RUGBY RIDDLESDOWN 25 : 25 IMBERHORNE

A really, really pleasing performance from the year 7s today. Much improved tackling, excellent handling and quick ruck speed; all the basics were there and I was really pleased with how these young men are starting to carry themselves on the pitch. They represented the school well and were a credit to the Imberhorne badge. Excellent stuff today boys – well done.

Man of the match: Alex HS: Very physical in the contact and some strong carries.

ECO CLUB

Winter planting
Eco Clubbers were out in force this week - planting!
They planted garlic for an early crop in Spring in the Windmill Lane Eco Club raised bed, while the sixth formers at Imberhorne Lane were heralding the arrival of hedges, given to us free as part of the Woodland Trust Trees for Schools initiative. The hedges include around a dozen saplings in bundles and include a mixture of Dog Rose, Halel, Rowan, Crab apple, Holly, Hawthorn and Goat Willow. We are hardening the plants off outside the Chemistry block until we find the right spot to plant them. Keep your eye out for a "growth spurt" from a planted sapling some time next term.

IMBERHORNE ECO CLUB

It's been a busy time for our 'Eco Club' this Autumn, they've created a 'hedgehog house', a 'hedgehog feeding station' and an 'insect hotel' to encourage hedgehogs on the school site as they get ready to hibernate for the winter.

Imberhorne works to ‘Save the Hedgehog’

Mindful of how the UK’s hedgehog population has dropped from 30 million in the 1950s to only a million today – Our Imberhorne ‘Eco Club’ has put down its first Hedgehog House in the bushes next to the raised beds in Windmill Lane. We will be monitoring the hedgehog house over the next few weeks in the hope that this native porcupine will find a happy home there.
Hedgehogs will be getting ready to hibernate soon through the winter so we are hoping that one of them might roll into a little ball and get cosy in the dry leaves inside their house.
If you ever find a hedgehog that might need help – you can contact the British Hedgehog Society to find a nearby shelter (www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk).
