Year 8 boys football win despite the rain
The Year 8 boys’ football team won today. Yes it did rain, and yes I did get wet, and yes it was after four lessons…already in the rain, and yes it was a Friday afternoon, and no I do not know why I did that?!Anyway….we played St. Andrews from Worthing in the first round of the County Cup and the boys won 1-0. The score line does not suggest just how good we were going forward. The team played the best passing and attacking football I have ever seen (particularly from students so young) and we destroyed their defence. The reason for not scoring more was some poor finishing and the driving rain getting into everyone’s eyes! Two Year 7 players added some class to the side complementing the current Year 8 players who have grown in confidence – all contributing with some excellent passes to split the opposition’s defence and give our hard working defence a break. S. Jackson in goal has really developed this year and is leading the back line with presence and good goalkeeping ability. O. Pither made his school debut and was a 'rock' in defence.F. Cartwright from Year 7 scored our goal after some great running from the wing and some good one-two’s in the box.Well done every one.Team: S. Jackson, J. Trigg, R. Lentz, C. Freeman, O. Pither, L.
