During September, A Level students conducted two days of Field Trips for their personal geographical investigations this year. Each student had to create their own Human and Physical question or hypothesis that they would test in the field.

The first of the days was 'Human Day', with some students choosing to survey the shopping centre of East Grinstead, and others assessing the  land use patterns of urban Brighton. We took various measurements including width of shops, type of goods sold, land use, land value and parking/access for shoppers. Some of us then used secondary data by analysing maps of the shopping areas from 1989, and comparing them to today.

The next day we completed our 'Physical Investigations', with some of us visiting the River Darent and others visiting the coastline around Newhaven, Seaford and Eastbourne. Here we surveyed the size of beaches, gradients, sediment sizes, water flow and river transects.  All of this data will be used in our final analysis and evaluation, and we may be asked about anything on the Geographical Skills exam paper we will sit in June. So it was a vital trip all round!
