Y12 Travel & Tourism students at Wakehurst
Year 12 Travel and Tourism students have been investigating two tourist attractions in the south-east to compare and contrast how they operate. The proximity of Wakehurst Place provided an extremely convenient and popular case study. The students were in high spirits as we arrived and they confidently imersed into the role of research students. I have never seen students so eager to photograph what must appear to others to be mundane, inanimate objects. Car parking spaces, bicycle racks, bus stops, fire extinguishers, automatic doors, CCTV camera, the tills in the shop, recycling bins, wheelchairs, signs and posters. Of course, all of this is relevant to how the attraction operates and provided the students with a valuable insight into how the attraction caters to different types of visitors; the use of technology and health and safety procedures. The enthusiasm continued during the research stage of the visit as students regularly called out what they had found. We had some free time to look around the gardens and the mansion, but not before shopping had been completed. We then made our way back to the minibus for our lunch. A couple of benches close by allowed all of the students to rest their weary feet as they indulged in the picnic provided. Luckily they could eat just as well as they could research!
