Vision Aid Overseas
Our Imberhorne student council were very proud today to present a cheque for £1850 to the charity, Vision Aid Overseas (VAO). Mrs Margaret Lawrence, School Governor and local optician, received the cheque on behalf of the charity she helps to support. Margaret, who retires from her post as governor at the end of this school year, approached the senior students of the school council to see if they would lend their support to Vision Aid Overseas. The students responded by organising a non-uniform day in return for donations and collected unwanted spectacles as part of their efforts. The charity arranges for opticians (including Mrs Lawrence) and teams of helpers to visit countries around the world where people have little or no access to eye tests or spectacles. As little as £3 can transform the life of someone who is functionally blind, simply by providing them with the spectacles they need. Mrs Lawrence expressed her gratitude on behalf of the charity and Mrs Anne Walker, Head of Sixth Form commented, “The student council, led by senior students Karima Rahman, Louise Byrnes, Nick Robertson and James Mays, voted on this charity because they recognized the importance of good sight and wanted to support Margaret in her work. The response from all the students in the school was brilliant and we were delighted to be able to present the charity with such a good amount of money together with lots of used spectacles.”
