Outstanding GCSE Results!
Imberhorne are delighted with our outstanding GCSE results again this year and we are pleased that so many of our students have the grades required to make the next step in their educational journey.
There have been significant changes to the GCSE programmes of study along with changes to the grading systems in English and Maths. This means that it is very difficult to compare performance with that in previous years because the qualifications and grades are so different. We can report that in English Language/Literature a fantastic 82% of students attained grade 9-4 (approximately A*-C) and 78% of students attained grades 9-4 in Maths. Our performance is particularly strong with the higher grades, 9-7 (approximately A*/A), with 31% of students gaining these grades in English and 26% in Maths.
Martin Brown, Headteacher commented "We are so proud of all of our students and recognise how hard they worked to achieve these impressive results. We will to see many of them return to the 6th form and wish those students going elsewhere the very best of luck for the future. They have been wonderful ambassadors for the school."
Some attention has been paid in particular to the awarding of the new grade 9, this is supposed to sit above the existing A* and will only be targeted at the top 2 – 3% of students nationally. 12 students attained grade 9 in English and 9 students attained a grade 9 in Maths, a huge achievement.
Overall we had a 99% pass rate with over 75% of all grades at C/4 or above and 25% of grades at A/7 and above.
The new accountability measure, Progress 8, measures the progress students make during their time in secondary education. Data for this is currently not available because it is reconfigured on an annual basis depending upon national results. This means that it is impossible for any individual school to calculate its own Progress 8 score without access to the national coefficients used in the formula. This data will not be available for a period of time. Attainment 8 is more straightforward but a new points system introduced this year means a school’s Attainment 8 score cannot be compared with the score from a previous year.
Over the coming years, when we get some continuity and consistency we hope that more meaningful comparisons can be made with different data sets arising from exam performance.
We must mention the 29 students who gained 8 A*/A (9/8/7) grades, 13 of these students had 10 or more A*/A (9/8/7) grades! Well done to Amelia Hayman, Imogen Hay, Joseph Fisher, Marina Billings, Amelia Barton, Amber West, Elliott Purcell, Mathilde Herbelin-Earle, Kate Geraghty, Eleanor Durrant, Alice Denman, Lily Board, Jasmin Solomons.
