National Cup Football
After an extremely successful Year 9 season in 2014-2015, Imberhorne Year 10 Footballers ventured into the National Cup for a tough encounter against London side St Cellia’s. After a tight opening period Imberhorne got down to their usual pass and move style which soon produced a typical Imberhorne goal. A great pass from Collins gave Bull the chance to unleash an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner 1-0 Imberhorne, within a few minutes 1 became 2 as a superb through ball from Pearse released the goal machine Bull who slotted the ball calmly home. 2-0 Imberhorne at half time. How the tide then turned, going uphill Imberhorne struggled to get out of first gear and were up against it from the off and St Cellias’s soon produced a goal from an Imberhorne mistake. Under all sorts of pressure and the time ticking, St Cellia’s scored a breakaway goal and tied the game 2-2 at full time. With a short turn around and playing downhill again Imberhorne had a few chances but couldn’t find the goal they needed. Heartbreak followed as St Cellia’s pumped the ball into the box and their giant forward managed to get the slightest touch and divert it in the net. St Cellia’s won 3-2 in extra time.
Both managers agreed that the best team lost – but that’s sport……
