Media Studies Oscars
by Ms E. Newman, Head of Media Studies The first ever Media Studies’ Oscars were held on Tuesday 3rd May, celebrating the hard work of the Year 13 students. Music videos were entered in twelve categories, including Best Planning, Best Editing, Best Scene and Outstanding Performer. There were also the top awards of Best Coursework - Female and Best Coursework - Male, as well as the most coveted award of the night: Best Media Student. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />The theme of the Oscars was taken very seriously, with guest presenters and students dressing up in their finery – along with invited guests – to watch clips of nominated videos ahead of the Oscar being awarded and the full video being played. All awards were presented by very impressed members of Imberhorne staff. It was a rare opportunity to showcase the hard work of many of the students, which formed only one part of a demanding coursework portfolio comprising the music video, a digipak design for an artist’s/band’s DVD/CD and a magazine advertisement promoting the release of the DVD/CD. The event was well supported and we were very grateful to have the presence of the East Grinstead Courier to take some official photographs to commemorate our inaugural event, and the Atrium Cinema in East Grinstead, who provided all nominees with two free tickets to see a film of their choice and who donated some film posters to help turn the school hall into a venue fit for Hollywood royalty! It seems certain that after the success of this year’s awards, the Imberhorne Oscars will become a regular event.
