Children in Need 2008 - £5,860.05 raised
Children in Need 2008 - £5,860.05 raised as students, staff and parents all dig deep into their pockets for a good cause!Friday 14th November saw the annual fundraising appeal for Children in Need 2008. As usual the BBC were the national organisers of this event and have now got it down to a fine art and managed to raise a total of £20,991,216,(more to be added). Imberhorne school did an amazing job raising a grand total of £5,860.05. As for most charity days, here at Imberhorne all of the students were allowed to come into school in their own clothes. Everyone not wearing uniform was charged £2 for the privilege with all proceeds going towards the final Children In Need total. There were various events organised, at both school sites. These varied from basic competitions, like: ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ and ‘guess the name of the teddy bear’, to more complex competitions like: ‘karaoke and dance mats set up in the hall’.As is the long-standing tradition, the Sixth Form come to school in fancy dress for the day - this year was no exception. It was great to see many Sixth Formers collecting money from commuters very early in the morning. Some of the more extravagant costumes included a Panda with his zoo keeper and even the SPICE GIRLS who arrived at the station with Spice Girls classics blaring out! (David Major, Liam Lindsay, Chris Bull, Ciaran Parkinson and Callum O’Donovan).Lunchtime at upper school saw the long awaited Teacher vs Boys, Teachers vs Girls, and Boys vs Girls netball games. It seemed the girls took it rather seriously and weren’t phased at all when the boys netball team, made up of Sixth Form footballers, came out of the changing rooms in their lovely netball skirts. The girls won against the boys 6-1 but the boys will be looking for revenge when the tables are turned for next years five- a-side football!A fun-filled and enjoyable day was had by all. Thanks to all those who put their valuable time and hard effort to help make this day memorable for everyone! WHAT WILL NEXT YEAR BRING!?By A. Smith, Year 12 studentYear 10 Cake SaleOn the 13th of November, Year 10 students with Mrs O'Dell held a cake sale in aid of Children in Need. We all worked together to organise and run this successful fundraiser. We planned the sale in our Learn for Life lessons and agreed that everyone in the form would do something to contribute to the sale. Some of us made posters and others made delicious cakes to sell. On the day, the whole form turned out to help sell the cakes at break and lunch time. We were busy but still had quite a few left so we put them in the staff room for the teachers to buy which went really well. In the end we raised £44.70 for Children in Need!By J.
