Careers Speed Dating
We all thoroughly enjoyed the Year 9 Careers Speed Dating event on Tuesday 6th February. Volunteers, made up of parents and friends of Imberhorne, gave up their time to help us inspire this year group into thinking about the world of work, perhaps for the first time.
Students were in small groups - whilst the volunteers moved around them in a 'speed dating' stye format - and were tasked with using open and closed questions to pin down the occupation of the person in front of them. Receiving vouchers for correctly guessing.
Many of the occupations that were presented to the students were new to them, jobs they had never heard of or in idustries they knew very little about. From Funeral Directors to Detective Inspectors to Engineers and Neo Natal Nurses. Whilst they are not necessarily careers that individual students will want to pursue, this type of event at this stage for our young people is about sewing the seed that a career can take many twists and turns, thinking about the skills we have and how transferable those skills are, how the labour market is a constantly changing place and the world of work can be an extremely exciting one!
